I don’t really upgrade my computer system that often, I did buy accessories every now and then though. 🙂

Before getting my Mac recently, my last computer purchase was actually 6.5 years ago. The experience *now* is really great, with the MabBook Pro’s performance, when looking at the stunning wallpaper on my newly purchase 21.5″ 1920×1080 full HD LCD monitor – even though it is just an entry level model, I just feel shiok, very shiok.

Looking at the history, I skip Windows Vista and moving into Mac OS X Leopard instead:

If I remember correctly, each computer purchase I spent almost the similar amount of $…

But I love the Mac most, ha ha ha!

Spent some time to come out with this My Apple page.

I will add one more thing later once I get it: a 1TB external disk drive for Time Machine backup…

I just love my Mac. 🙂

BTW, my neck feel good with the size and height of this LCD. 🙂

Today decided to get the Viewsonic VX2233wm. Choose it due to the price and the 1920×1080 Full HD at only 21.5″, thanks to the smaller pixel pitch – 0.24825mm.

Now it is my primary display, and the screen on my MacBook Pro become the secondary – for my girl to watch video while I’m working with the main display.

BTW, the built in speakers suck, so I muted it 🙂

Having hard time unlocking files after transferred from Windows to Mac. Too many files to reset one by one…

Luckily, goggled this: chflags -R nouchg {file/folder name}

In the process of transferring the last bits of files from the good old Windows system.

Well, 2 weeks into Mac OS X.

Spent nearly a week to migrate my Outlook mailbox into Apple Mail. Almost settled except due to storage issues, and too many junk files to clear in my old PC…

To save few hundred bucks, I decided to use free software whenever possible. The very first one is Office suite. Just installed NeoOffice, cool, can open all my Microsoft Office files properly, include those password protected files. So will give Apple iWork ($148) a pass for now; forget Microsoft Office for Mac all together, I can live without it now.

Feel a bit neck pain with my MacBook Pro on the mStand though, think I might get the LCD panel sooner than I planned. Or shall I get a higher chair? Sigh, problem for short people like me…

Finally make up my mind last week. I am getting a Mac to replace my 7 years old self-built PC. This is my current Mac setup:

This is an older version of Penryn MacBook Pro – which was first released back in Feb-2008. Since it is $700-$800 cheaper now than the latest Unibody release — and not easy to find now btw, so I think it would be wiser for me to get this unit instead.

The new “purchase” consists of:
Apple MacBook Pro 15″ 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
– only upgraded the RAM to 4GB, the rest are standard items for this model
AppleCare Extended Warranty for MacBook Pro (get it cheaper from eBay)
Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse (Bluetooth)
Apple Wireless Keyboard (Bluetooth)
Speck Case (clear)
Rain mStand
Barracuda Mousepad
Capdase Keyboard Protectors

It’s not “cheap”…

That’s about all on the new equipment rant. My Mac adventure is now begins. After “playing” it for a week, it’s time to move on. It’s truly a different experience from using Windows system. Luckily I know a “bit” Unix & Linux here and there, which make this transition much easier than expected.

P.S. Will be adding a 24″ LCD monitor and external storage later. 🙂
