Finally make up my mind last week. I am getting a Mac to replace my 7 years old self-built PC. This is my current Mac setup:

This is an older version of Penryn MacBook Pro – which was first released back in Feb-2008. Since it is $700-$800 cheaper now than the latest Unibody release — and not easy to find now btw, so I think it would be wiser for me to get this unit instead.

The new “purchase” consists of:
Apple MacBook Pro 15″ 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
– only upgraded the RAM to 4GB, the rest are standard items for this model
AppleCare Extended Warranty for MacBook Pro (get it cheaper from eBay)
Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse (Bluetooth)
Apple Wireless Keyboard (Bluetooth)
Speck Case (clear)
Rain mStand
Barracuda Mousepad
Capdase Keyboard Protectors

It’s not “cheap”…

That’s about all on the new equipment rant. My Mac adventure is now begins. After “playing” it for a week, it’s time to move on. It’s truly a different experience from using Windows system. Luckily I know a “bit” Unix & Linux here and there, which make this transition much easier than expected.

P.S. Will be adding a 24″ LCD monitor and external storage later. 🙂

Today is history for me — the day I own my first Macintosh – a MacBook Pro 😀

Another rumor that new iMac will be introduced by Apple next Tuesday, only hardware specification update though.

Considering all the price points, most likely I will get a 20″ iMac by this coming Sitex (27-30 Nov @ Singapore Expo), rather than the 13″ MacBook or 15″ MacBook Pro. How many times in a year that I need mobility with my personal computer? Probably once or twice, or none. Should spend the MabBook Pro budget on iMac, software and accessories.

Getting bored with Windows stuff, will drop the idea for getting a PC laptop, definitely no Windows desktop for me, at least not in the near future.

Yearend is coming. Shopping time, time to reward myself…

I’ve been eyeing for a Mac for a while, to replace my near 7 years old self-built PC. Now it’s time to make some decision, very much driven by cost…

Struggling between 20″ iMac, 13″ MacBook, 15″ MacBook Pro, or just a highend PC laptop running Vista?! Windows 7 is coming in one year time… Really not worth paying for the premium for IT gadget. Though I really like the new MacBook Pro. Sigh! MBP only nearly $3.2K, can get a very good PC laptop + some software that I want… Another headache, Adobe Lightroom 2 or Aperture 2?

It’s also time to get the fullframe DSLR that I’ve been waiting for nearly 2 years: Canon EOS 5D MKII. Expected to sell at $3.5K for body only… Attaching to my 24-105 f/4L IS, it would be a perfect combination for majority of my shooting needs. Drooling for one… Can take 1080p HD video some more!

Come to think of it, I shall just get the 13″ MB and stick to the “free” software from Apple & Canon… Let wait and see the review comparing MB and MBP. 5D MKII is a no-brainer.
